Has voted to CUT TAXES 81 times, including supporting more than $1.2 billion in tax relief in the past three years. Wrote the expanded Kansas Governmental Operations Accountabilty Law to INITIATE CHANGE and expose waste, fraud and abuse in state government. Led the effort to ensure proper state funding for every Kansas kid's EDUCATION -- especially kids in our rural Southeast Kansas communities. Was awarded the "Legislative Champion" award by the Kansas State Head Start Association for his DEDICATION to early childhood development. Has improved the lives of Kansas senior citizens by voting for the SAFE Senior Credit. He also HELPED SENIORS keep more of their Social Security by supporting the exemption of Social Security payments from Kansas income tax for seniors making less than $75,000 per year. Wrote a new law that increased benefits for VETERANS and gives free hunting and fishing licenses to disabled veterans. Has a 100% prolife voting record. Voted for tougher regulation and licensing of abortion clinics, for providing more funds to local Crisis Pregnancy Centers, for better enforcement of the state's ban on late-term abortions, and for every other piece of pro-life legislation that has been proposed since I have been in the Senate. I have voted to override the governor's veto of these pro-life bills every single time.
From overhauling and strengthening our public school system to improving the state's commitment to financing our community colleges in a way that eases the burden on local property taxes, I have helped make a difference for students.
