Hello, I'm Steven Rosile, Libertarian Party candidate for United States House of Representatives, Fourth District.
I stand for the proposition that each of us has the right to live our lives in any way we choose so long as no other person's rights are violated. You own yourself, and the fruits of your labors, not the government, which now takes nearly 50% of what we earn in taxes, and, to an alarming degree, dictates how we must conduct our lives. We are forced to participate in pension and healthcare schemes whether we wish to or not. Our money is taken to provide welfare not only for individuals, but also for agriculture, corporations and even politicians.
The federal government funds programs in areas where they have no Constitutional authority or competence. Federal old age pensions, aid to education, healthcare, and a multitude of other programs do us more harm than good. By taking so much of what we earn we are forced to rely on government rather than ourselves. Yet the personal income tax could be entirely eliminated if the federal government was no larger than it was only eight years ago.
Our taxes have gone to prop up oppressive foreign governments, with the result that much of the world hates America. That hatred has led to the terrorist attacks that have left thousands of Americans dead and injured, while the federal government's response has been to infringe even more upon We, the People's liberties.
The war in Iraq was and is wrong. It is creating more hatred and terrorism, and a huge debt that will burden our children and grandchildren. We must extricate ourselves from this ill conceived war as soon as possible. I will always be against Congress giving the power to wage war to just one person. I am opposed to reinstating the draft and am against the forced extensions of enlistment that has become commonplace in our military.
As Americans we are more responsible for the quality of our government than any people in the world. If it is bad, [Response was truncated to maximum response length of 2000 characters.]
